“Growing Food, Growing Power: From Food Insecurity to Community Resilience” with Shannan Eagan

Description:
Last year the Reservoir Park Community Garden donated over 1,800 lbs of organic grown produce to PACS (Phoenixville Area Community Servies). The produce grown in our garden affected more than 7,200 meals in the Phoenixville area. As the costs of necessary goods and services continue to rise, individuals and families in our community struggle to find affordable whole food options. I talk about the CSA share that fed me for a summer and my experience navigating government assistant programs such as SNAP, WIC as a young working mother. When putting food on the table feels more like a luxury than a basic right, I turn to gardening to reclaim my power. At Reservoir Park Community Garden, we are growing compassion, mindfulness, and connection to our ecosystem. Volunteers are welcome to join our efforts anytime of year. I invite you to visit the garden and experience the magic for yourself.
